my little granddaughter, who just turned two, saw me handbinding and offered to help. her big brother does this all the time, but this is a first for her. i love sewing with them! i think part of the reason she was interested in helping me was she’s recently learned to thread with a toy i gave her for her birthday. it’s a hungry caterpillar threading toy that has the caterpillar attached to a thin rope that you thread through wooden pieces of fruit with holes in their centers. she had a hard time with it at first, but i walked her through how to do it a few times and after several attempts she not only got the concept but was doing it on her own. so she now knows about pulling a thread through and i think that translates to her being able to pull the needle for me as i worked on handbinding.
i finished handbinding “farmer oak’s flocks” january 2nd and am nearly done with this
liberty courthouse steps quilt, too. i do love starting the year off with finishes.
How sweet! The new quilter in the family? Happy New Year to you and yours.
